Make, Model, Year of Project
1965 Rambler Marlin
What stage is this in?
Completed Project
When did you purchase it and for how much?
June 17, 1973. Paid $599.00
Why did you choose this vehicle?
Fell in live with styling
What sort of condition was it in when you started the project, what was wrong with it, etc.
When I purchased it, it was a nice 7 year old used car.
The car sat on the car lot for 2 1/2 years, before the original owner bought it, because no one wanted a car like this. They weren’t popular.
I am friends with the owner of the dealership I bought it at. He found out that I had the car and said he had to come see it. When I asked him why, he simply said, :Because I hate it.” His reason was because he had to wash it everyday for the 2 1/2 years it sat there, waiting to be sold.
I have copies of the original purchase.
What, specifically have you done, or had done to it?
It’s pretty much stock and I rebuild and refurbish as needed.
It still looks very much like the day I bought it. Just a couple hundred thousand mile’s more on it now.
Can you list any and all parts that you have put in?
Original drive-train, refreshed once about 20 years ago.
Upgraded brakes to later model AMC discs.
Repainted twice
Interior done twice.
Where have you purchased your parts?
Galvins AMC rambler parts mostly
What about you?
I purchased the car when I was 16 and have owned it for almost 47 years.
I’m the founder of the Northern California Rambler Club and I am very active in the AMC/Rambler community.
There are a lot of parts available for the car and more reproduction pieces being made all the time.
Ramblers are a great way to get into the old car hobby. They are plentiful economical and reliable.
Any stories regarding this project?
When I bought the Marlin, both of my brothers laughed at me.
They where Mopar guys.
However, both changed their minds about AMCs and they both now drive Marlins as well.
