Having had some experience with Sunex tools, I was ready to try something with a bit of impact. (Pun intended) I was pretty excited to try these sockets out, as I always seem to need them. (I do have inexpensive ones that were given to me one year for Christmas, but, this seemed like a great set.)
Sunex emailed me and asked if I would be willing to review tools if they could get some to me. I, of course, agreed. They sent me this Sunex 29 Pc 1/2″ drive deep SAE & Metric socket set – model #5153DD

I found that these were deeper than most, which, to be honest, isn’t something that I generally need, but, I have actually needed it in the past. This does make it seem like they actually tried to make a product that would help in all situations.
The finish on these is not smooth. You may think, now why is that a good thing? So, let me explain. You’re under a car or truck, laying on the concrete, or gravel/dirt, whichever you are stuck with. Your hands are covered in grease and your socket drops next to you. You grab at it, limited in your ability to maneuver, and it’s smooth. (A chrome socket) Now, imagine how frustrated you just became, especially if it is cold outside and you are trying to hurry up.
A rougher finish enables you to grip the tool even with grease or oil all over your hands/gloves.
The quality far exceeds the others I have had in my hands. The walls seem thicker and the weight seems heavier. They did well on my impact guns. I was very pleased at how they felt and how they stood up.
The not so good
Well, no product is perfect, right? So, though I felt that these are high quality, good tools, let me tell you what could be better. (In my opinion)
The weight. Man, these things are a bit heavy. Drop one on your head and you may wake up in a couple of hours.
No impact extensions or swivels. I know, 29 pc set, just the sockets. I just think this would be a better set if it had one, or both. I couldn’t use the double sided lug sockets with my impact because I do not own an impact extension.
Ok, so, you have seen the good and the not so good. So, what do we really think of it?
I have used this set often over the time I have had it. On my truck, my wife’s minivan. These things hold up and seem to be easy to use. Even without a release button, I haven’t had too much trouble releasing sockets, so, it isn’t so much of an issue as it is a wish.
If you are looking to put quality tools in your garage, your trunk or for a gift, you won’t go wrong with this socket set. You may have to add a few tools, such as indicated above, but, not everyone needs them, so, this makes a great set.
