What type of vehicle is this?: Car
Make, Model, Year of Project
1955 Buick Special 4 Door Hardtop
What stage is this in?
Somewhere between complete and not sure if it will ever get finished
When did you purchase it and for how much?
I purchased it in 2009 for $1500.
Why did you choose this vehicle?
My autistic son saw the car and we just had to stop and look.
What sort of condition was it in when you started the project, what was wrong with it, etc.
It sat for a long time. It looked like it had possibly been redone in the late 1970’s.
It had never been wrecked and had most all original parts with original motor, so it is an all numbers matching car, not missing any major parts. It just needed lots of TLC.
What, specifically have you done, or had done to it?
I took her apart and rebuilt or replaced parts.
I did all the work.
It took 3 years and the only thing I did not do was the paint.
Can you list any and all parts that you have put in?
With the old Buick’s, you cant really replace an engine or trans with parts from a Chevy without heavy modifications, so my car is all stock.
264 V8 2 speed Dyna flow transmission with torque tube suspension.
All drum brakes.
I even have the heated front seat option
Where have you purchased your parts?
Mostly eBay and Bob’s automobilia canter car parts just to name a few
What about you?
I’m a trucker by trade.
I’ve been into cars since I was a teenager.
My first car was a 1956 Chevy Biscayne purchased in 1981.
I’m 55 now and I’ve had multiple cars and trucks, but the Buick has been my favorite.
I meet so many who had a dad, a uncle or grandparents that had a old Buick.
Any stories regarding this project?
I’m a proud member of the Old Farts Car Club of new castle Indiana.
I’ve won 87 trophy’s with my 55 and have many more years to go.
Any garages, parts stores, fabrication shops, etc you want to call out specifically?
PAINT BY JIM OF NEW CASTLE INDIANA, I THINK HE HAS DONE A GREAT JOB ON MY CAR.
