What type of vehicle is this?

Car

Make, Model, Year of Project

07 Shelby GT

What stage is this in?

Somewhere between complete and not sure if it will ever get finished

When did you purchase it and for how much?

Kailua Ford in Hawaii for ($60k).

A stock GT runs at 33k plus the 20k Shelby package then all the taxes

Why did you choose this vehicle?

It was my boyhood dream car, to drive a 67 Shelby mustang.

My big brother just bought his vapor silver GT500 and was telling me about the red Gt500 I had my eye on, he also told me that there was a Black Shelby GT, in the back, way in the back.

After talking about it for a couple of days, I asked my brother to call the salesman that sold him his GT500 and we set up a time after the dealership closed. It was just me, my brother, the salesman, the finance manager and the owner of the dealership, Mike Makenna himself.

I was there to buy a red w/white striped GT500 like in the movie, I am Legend, that they had parked in front of the showroom doors.

While looking at the GT500 the salesman introduced me to the owner Mike, where we talked for a bit about cars and he showed me his personal Saleen F150 that he drives daily.

After talking to Mike and my brother about the Shelby GT my mind was made up, and the GT was coming home with me that night.

Keep in mind the red gt500 and the Shelby GT were going for the same price.

So why the Shelby GT instead of the GT500? Mike, my big brother told me that Shelby was suing Ford over his name infringement on the Gt500 because it’s a SVT Cobra from the Ford plant that’s using the Shelby name to sell, where as the Shelby GT was a true blue genuine Shelby Mustang from the Nevada Shelby plant.

All said and done, it was the Shelby GT that came home with me.

What sort of condition was it in when you started the project, what was wrong with it, etc.

Brand new from the Dealership and registered to Shelby Automotive as 1st owner

What, specifically have you done, or had done to it?

When I purchased the car from the dealer, the car needed to be washed and detailed as part of the sale, that’s when we found that the silver stripes was faded and showed signs of shrinking from being in the sun, we made a deal to have the stripes removed and painted and cleared instead of restriping, it was also cheaper to do, the stripe kit from Shelby was almost $2500 just for the stickers without installation.

So before the car went in for painting, we agreed that they were to paint the GT500 spoiler and hood to color match the car 1 time.

Can you list any and all parts that you have put in?

When I saw the car at the dealer it didn’t look like a Shelby, that’s when they showed me the option upgrade booklet.

Now that was what a Shelby was supposed to look like.. fortunately for me a buddy of mine worked at Scott Drakes in Vegas, during the time when they was the R&D for Shelby Automotive. So I started with chassis and suspension, installing sub frame connectors, tube control arms, adj pan hard bar, trans cross brace.

Now under the hood was a set of ford racing shorty headers, Tanes big red motor mounts, ATI super dampener, Ford racing hot rod cams, Accel coil packs, Paxton supercharger on a 3in pulley with air to air inter cooler

Fidanza twin disk clutch

400lpg fuel pump #6AN fuel lines and aeromotive fuel rail, Ford racing 47# injectors, factory 2010 intake manifold with idle valve delete plate

ford racing 4:11 gears and MRBPP stainless axle back mufflers

Interior is a custom carbon fiber d shape steering wheel with suede wrap, innovative wide band and auto meter Colbalt boost gauges, Kenwood sound system, Ford racing rear seat complete with rear strut bracing and a Shelby performance harness brace bar with B-pillar supports

Exterior is Factory GT500 Aluminum hood and rear spoiler, Shelby Race speed grill and hood vents, Shelby front brake ducting ports, Black Shelby Razor rims and billet gas door.

Where have you purchased your parts?

So far all parts was ordered thru Shelby or the Ford dealership and American Muscle

Any stories regarding this project?

From the 1st day after bringing my Shelby home I said I was going to install an aluminum ford racing drive shaft, 11yrs later and thousands of dollars later, I am still saying I’m going install a ford racing aluminum drive shaft, oh, well, there’s always next time.

Any garages, parts stores, fabrication shops, etc you want to call out specifically?
