1955 Chevy 3100 – Steve Locey

Sometimes a build comes upon us that we take on for reasons other than our desire to build it. Such was the reason for Steve Locey to take on the build of this 1955 Chevy 3100 truck.

Check out the article to see why he chose this build and what his hopes are. Also, make sure to scroll to the end to see all of the pictures.

Success! You're on the list.

What type of vehicle is this?

Make, Model, Year of Project

1955 Chev 3100

What stage is this in?

Somewhere between complete and not sure if it will ever get finished

When did you purchase it and for how much?

I purchased it for $6000

Why did you choose this vehicle?

A sick friend of mine started about 20% of it and couldn’t finish so I talked him into selling it to me so I could let him see it completed.

What sort of condition was it in when you started the project, what was wrong with it, etc.

It was a basket case, completely apart in pieces

What, specifically have you done, or had done to it?

The corvette-front clip was already fabricated on the original 55 frame, I installed the ford nine inch rear end shorted 16”.

I put in a 468 ci big block Chevy dyno’d At 550hp.

Paint was done by me in the same shop the truck was built in.

Interior was also done by myself all for the first time.

This build took 1.5 years working on it every day of the week feverishly so my buddy could see it complete.

Can you list any and all parts that you have put in?

I built a 468 Big Block Chevy with a Turbo 350 trans 3200 steal and ford 9” with 390 gears

1980 corvette front clip

2009 Chevy Silverado 6 way electric seats upholstered by myself

The wood in the box was also done by myself, it’s white oak.

There is a15 gallon aluminum fuel cell with Holley blue fuel pump.

Where have you purchased your parts?

The windows and accessories were mostly purchased from bills trucks in Bowmanville, Ontario, Canada.

What about you?

I am a construction project manager with a life line passion for building old hotrods.

Any stories regarding this project?

The guy I purchased it from at the time didn’t have a bright future ahead of him. He was extremely ill with a not so good life expectancy.

He is still with us and able to see it almost completed. Hopefully he hangs on to go for a ride in it.

My name is Dennis. First, let me just say, I am a Christian, a husband, a father to 1 beautiful step-daughter and 3 strapping young boys and a step-grandfather (She calls me “Grumpy”) to a gorgeous step-granddaughter. These will always be my priorities, no matter what my interests are. That said, I strive to keep and maintain a family friendly atmosphere, so my boys and their friends can enjoy the site as much as I do. (Granddaughter isn’t old enough and daughter has other interests.)
