1968 Chevy Camaro SS – Gerrard Neep

I’m sure that you all have heard of Tasmania, right? I mean, it even has an animal named after it. I think I found that animal.

Read on, this very well may be the Tasmanian Devil, so, scroll down and read the article and see the pictures, if you dare!

Name:

Gerrard Neep

Make, Model, Year of Project:

1968 Chevrolet Camaro SS

What stage is this in?

Completed Project

When did you purchase it and for how much?

2011 $25000 AUS (Australian Currency)

Why did you choose this vehicle?

When I was 15 my neighbor across the road had a friend with a Camaro. I fell in love with the shape, also, in Tasmania, they were pretty rare.

What sort of condition was it in when you started the project, what was wrong with it, etc.

It was white with a black vinyl roof and RS stripes. It looked quite good but the paint hid a lot of rust and bad repairs and had horrible 20 inch wheels

What, specifically have you done, or had done to it?

Two years ago I decided to do a full rebuild, which included paint and panel work with a color change, new interior, new wheels, new engine and new chrome.

Can you list any and all parts that you have put in?

The engine is a 350 sbc, (small Block Chevy) with alloy heads, solid roller cam, 11:1 compression, a 750 quickfuel carburetor, Jessel roller rockers and stud girdle. It puts out just under 500hp at the wheels.

New bolt on parts including bumpers, grill, all new LED lights, new 4 inch reverse cowl bonnet, new interior carpet, console, door cards, Dakota digital dash.

It runs a Muncie rockcrusher gearbox and 9 inch diff with 3.7 gears and Detroit locker with Caltrac traction bars.

I have also replaced all the rubbers and seals as well a new exhaust.

Where have you purchased your parts?

Most of the parts came from Summit Racing as they ship to Australia

What about you?

I’m a mechanic and run my own business Neep Automotive and Performance where I work and build mainly pre 1990 cars and my Camaro is used to promote my business.

Any garages, parts stores, fabrication shops, etc you want to call out specifically?:

Not that you can tell in the photos but the factory SS stripes are there but ghosted in a few shades different from the body color so can only be seen in certain lights and replaced the SS decal with my namesake turnipracing.

Make sure to check out all of the pictures, and let’s give Kylie Hamilton a shout out for their amazing photography!
